1997-P Quarter with a die crack or …?

These pictures are of a 1997-P quarter that has some interesting marking on it. At first I though it was a die crack on both the obverse and reverse. But after closer examination I think both the obverse and reverse dies were damaged by some object that left a gouge. The gouge on the die, of course, translates into a raised line on the minted coin. The line on the reverse seems too smooth to be a die crack.

0bverse

The line on the forehead looks like a typical die crack. The line between the E and R however could be one. It does go under the R, so it is clearly on the die.

Reverse

This line extends from the rim to the eagle's head. It runs under the "M" so it appears to be on the die.
